A few things to consider when preparing and packing for your adventure. The United States is really big and our weather varies greatly depending on where you will be and when you are here. Spend some time researching the weather for your area online and pack accordingly. Many international team members are surprised by the heat or cold.
LESS CLOTHES are better - The number one mistake we see from international team members is overpacking clothes and then struggling to carry his/her luggage when traveling. Remember you will work 5-6 days per week wearing a uniform. So you'll only need limited casual clothes. In all Fudgery housing you will have access to a free washing machine and dryer. We recommend only bringing a few of your favorite casual clothes then plan to do laundry regularly.
Linens and toiletries - You must pack basic linens and toiletries. In all Fudgery housing and most other housing you will have bunk beds. These are single or twin-size beds. You'll need to provide your own sheets, blankets, pillows, towels, washcloths, and toiletries. It's best to bring these and don't forget to write your name on things. Fudgery housing provides shared laundry facilities but bring enough so you can go a few days before doing laundry.
Food - For many international team members, US food is much sweeter than their home country. We recommend that you do some online research and ask your friends about what US foods will closely match the foods you're used to at home. We suggest that you pack some food for a few quick meals. With moving in and the time difference, you might not want to grocery shop as soon as you arrive. American restaurants are very expensive for regular eating. Also, you might want to bring a large water bottle and a lunchbox. Most team members bring their meal to work and keep some water handy at all times.
Medicines and common remedies for your ailments - This is what we see international team members forget most often. You may not be sick when you leave or expect to get sick but things happen. We recommend you bring small amounts of common medicines you frequently use at home, these can also include some creams that you might use frequently too. American medicines will be labeled differently and are often significantly more expensive. Save yourself some aggravation and be prepared.
Uniform Requirements - You can prepare ahead of time by bringing black pants or shorts and a black belt. Remember you will be working every day so you'll want a couple pair of shorts or pants. We do not allow jeans, leggings or cargo pants. When you begin working we will provide you with one gray uniform shirt, one hat or visor, and access to an apron each day. The cost of these items is $24 and we will deduct that cost from your first paycheck. You have the option to purchase more uniform shirts and hats. We require you to wear black non-slip shoes. These are not regular tennis shoes. Commonly, team members purchase them in the US for $20-$35. You will not be allowed to work if you are not wearing appropriate shoes.
